Udaipur is highly contrasting to the rest of Rajasthan which is highly arid and desert-like, whereas one can find themselves enveloped in greenery, lakes, and hills in Udaipur. An enchanting place perfect for fairytale weddings Udaipur is one of the hyped destinations all across India. If you are someone who is visiting Udaipur for the first time then you are in for a surprise.
This scintillating city of marble palaces and hills was established by Maharana Udai Singh and the establishment dates back to 1559. One of the most prominent features of Udaipur is the colossal City Palace, overlooking the gorgeous Lake Pichola. Within the old walled city along the lakefront, you'll discover charming havelis, ancient ghats, temples, and bustling bazaars, all seamlessly blending together to create a captivating urban tapestry.
Unwind in your hotel room and prepare for the upcoming adventures that await you tomorrow on the rest of the tour.
Day 02 of the trip begins with a hearty breakfast at the hotel followed by a half-day sightseeing program in the heart of Udaipur. You will be paying a visit to the notable City Palace in sequence with the Museum.
City Palace boasts of being the gigantic palace complex in all of India; one can find in its architecture some flawlessly intricate aesthetic influences from both Mughal and Rajput cultures. Other activities as a part of the itinerary include promenading through the 17th Century Jagdish Temple complex, Sahelion ki Bari (Garden for the Maids of Honour), Bhartiya Lok Kala Mandir or the Folk Art Museum, along with a drive on the periphery of the Fatehsagar Lake.
As the evening approaches one could simply relish a boat ride in solitude on a direct payment basis on Lake Pichola admiring the surrounding beauty galore. You could also pay a visit to the Jag Mandir Island with its scintillating Gul Mahal Pavilion.
Retire for the day and doze off comfortably in the hotel room to rejuvenate for the following day.
After enjoying a delicious breakfast at the hotel, your journey continues to Jodhpur via Ranakpur. Here, you'll visit the largest Jain temple complex in India, dating back to the 15th century. Please note that the temples open at 1200 Hrs, and visitors are advised not to wear leather belts, footwear, bare legs, or black clothing.
Following your visit to Ranakpur, you'll proceed to Jodhpur, where you'll be transferred to your hotel. Jodhpur is renowned for its blue-hued architecture and rich cultural heritage, boasting forts, palaces, temples, havelis, vibrant markets, traditional craftsmanship, and a vivid tapestry of colors and textures. Nestled in Western Rajasthan, Jodhpur has long been a magnet for tourists, offering an immersive experience that goes beyond sightseeing. The city's history of valor, timeless romances, and everyday life during the era of epic legends come to life in every nook and corner.
In the afternoon, embark on a city tour of Jodhpur, beginning with the majestic Meherangarh Fort, perched atop a sandstone hill. Nearby, you'll find the impressive Jaswant Thada, a marble memorial commemorating Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. This site also houses the royal crematorium and three additional cenotaphs. Explore the bustling Sardar Bazaar and Clock Tower markets, where you can browse through a delightful array of products, including fresh produce, spices, Indian sweets, textiles, and silverware. These vibrant markets are tucked away in narrow lanes adorned with intricate woodcarvings, wrought iron, lacquer work, silver and ivory ornaments, and exquisite leather handicrafts. Your day will conclude with a comfortable overnight stay at your hotel.
After breakfast, we'll drive to Jaipur with stops in Ajmer and Pushkar. Ajmer, founded in the 11th century by Chauhan ruler Ajaipal, is known for its Taragarh fort and is a major center for Muslim pilgrims, home to the Dargah of Sufi saint Khwaja Moin-ud-din Chishti. Ajmer boasts early Muslim architecture and a vibrant bazaar. From Ajmer, we'll proceed to Pushkar, centered on one of India's most sacred lakes, with 52 ghats and numerous temples. This one and only Brahma temple in all of India is a major attraction. Witness evening prayers and immerse in the town's spiritual atmosphere. Alcohol and non-vegetarian food are prohibited in Pushkar.
Later, we'll continue our drive to Jaipur, known as the 'Pink City' due to its pink sandstone buildings. Jaipur was founded by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II in 1727 and is known for its unique city planning, representing the nine divisions of the Universe. The city's architecture combines Hindu, Mughal, and Jain influences. In 1853, it was painted pink in honor of a royal visit. Relax and unwind at the hotel after an eventful day.
After breakfast, enjoy a full-day city tour of Jaipur. We'll start with a visit to Amer Fort, located just 11 kilometers from Jaipur. This historic fort, built with white marble and red sandstone, is a captivating sight, especially with the picturesque Maota Lake in the foreground. You have the option to ascend to the fortress on an elephant [subject to availability] or by jeep for a convenient journey to the top. Once there, explore the extensive courtyards and halls with a knowledgeable guide who will share fascinating tales of its history.
Later, explore the vibrant City of Jaipur, beginning with the grand City Palace complex, featuring palaces, gardens, courtyards, and intricate artistry. The palace museum houses an impressive collection of rare manuscripts, armor, costumes, carpets, and miniature paintings. Adjacent to the palace is the Jantar Mantar, an astronomical observatory built in 1726 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh, known for its accurate celestial predictions.
Jaipur is a haven for shoppers, with its old city boasting a wide array of items to choose from, including jewelry (both precious and semi-precious stones, and handcrafted silver), textiles, handicrafts, and antiques. For avid shoppers, Jaipur is a treasure trove of unique finds. Call it a day and unwind at the hotel.
After a hearty morning meal at the hotel, we'll head to Agra, making a stop at Fatehpur Sikri along the way. Fatehpur Sikri, a deserted red sandstone city, was originally built by the Great Mughal Emperor Akbar as his capital and palace in the late 16th century. Despite being abandoned due to water scarcity shortly after its completion, it remains remarkably well-preserved, offering a glimpse into its past grandeur. This once-thriving city, larger than London when built, boasts palaces and mosques that stand in near-perfect condition, making it an extraordinary place to explore.
Afterward, we'll continue our journey to Agra, where we'll check into your hotel. Agra rose to prominence during the reign of Afghan King Sikandar Lodhi, who made it the capital of his empire. In 1526 A.D., the Mughal Emperor Babar undertook the task of enhancing Agra's unique character and beauty. Agra's ambiance is still steeped in its Mughal heritage, with numerous splendid monuments. The Taj Mahal, the pinnacle of Mughal architecture, stands as a testament to this glorious era. Conclude your day and relax at the hotel.
Following the morning meal, embark on a half-day city tour of Agra. Begin with a visit to the iconic Taj Mahal, a true marvel built by Emperor Shah Jahan in the mid-17th century as a testament to his love for his wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Its breathtaking marble inlay work up close is truly astonishing. (Closed on Fridays)
Next, explore the magnificent Agra Fort, a prime example of Mughal architecture and the seat of Mughal power across generations. Shahjahan added impressive quarters and a mosque, while Aurangzeb fortified the outer ramparts. Discover its Hall of Public Audience and Royal Pavilions. Agra is also known for its rich heritage of handicrafts, which you can explore in its vibrant markets.
Later, we'll drive back to Delhi. Upon arrival in India's bustling capital, you'll be transferred to your hotel. Delhi seamlessly blends the ancient with the modern, with historic monuments standing alongside fast-rising skyscrapers. As you travel from the airport, you'll notice the city's spacious, garden-like ambiance, adorned with beautiful parks. Have a pleasant night at the hotel.
Following breakfast, embark on a tour of Old and New Delhi. Old Delhi, once the Mughal capital of Shahjahanabad, welcomes you. Begin with a visit to Jama Masjid, the principal mosque of Old Delhi, commissioned by Emperor Shah Jahan and completed in 1656 AD. It's India's largest and most renowned mosque, located at the heart of Old Delhi on Chawri Bazar Road. This impressive mosque can accommodate 25,000 worshippers within its vast courtyard.
Next, we'll pay our respects at Raj Ghat, where Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, was cremated. We'll also pass by the iconic Red Fort from the outside. The Red Fort was the palace for Shahjahan's new capital, Shahjahanabad, the seventh Muslim city in the Delhi site. Explore the bustling streets of Chandni Chowk, fondly known as "The Silver Street," and experience an optional 'Cycle Rickshaw' ride through Old Delhi (available on direct payment).
In the afternoon, our tour takes us to New Delhi, a reflection of the British colonial legacy. The division between Old and New Delhi signifies the division between the capitals of the British and the Mughals, as well as a contrast in lifestyles. The walled city preserves tradition in all its facets, colors, and charms, while New Delhi strives to meet 21st-century standards.
Our exploration of Imperial Delhi begins with a visit to the Qutab Minar, India's tallest stone tower, initiated by Qutab-ud-Din Aibak in 1199 AD and completed by his successor, Iltutmish. This 72.5-meter-high tower boasts 379 steps and is a remarkable example of Islamic architecture. We'll also visit Humayun's Tomb, an exquisite Indo-Persian-style monument built by the widow of the second Mughal Emperor, Humayun. As we drive through the city, you'll catch glimpses of India Gate, the Parliament building, and Rashtrapati Bhawan, the President's residence.
Call it a day and unwind at your hotel.
On Day 9, you will depart from Delhi. We will arrange for your transfer to the Delhi Airport or Railway Station for your onward journey to your home sweet home!
