Itinerary

Day 1 - Jaipur Touchdown

Today, you will arrive in Jaipur and be transferred to your hotel. Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan and famously known as the "Pink City" due to its extensive use of pink sandstone in the construction of its historic buildings, owes its name, foundation, and layout to the renowned warrior astronomer Maharaja Jai Singh II (1699-1744 AD). This city, often referred to as the "City of Victory," was established by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II in 1727. It stands as a unique city in the world, symbolizing the nine divisions of the Universe through its nine rectangular sectors. The city's architectural planning, influenced by the Shilpa Shastra (the epic Hindu treatise on architecture), blends the grandeur of the Mughal and Jain styles of the era. In 1853, the city was painted pink in honor of a visit by Prince Albert. Despite the bustling traffic of bicycles, cars, and buses, Jaipur appears to have retained much of its historical charm.

Lodging for the night at the hotel. Unwind and prepare for the upcoming day.

Day 2 - Jaipur Exploration

After breakfast, embark on a full-day city tour of Jaipur, starting with a visit to Amer Fort, located 11 kilometers from Jaipur. This historic fort, made of white marble and red sandstone, boasts a picturesque setting by the Maota Lake. You can choose to ascend to the fort either on an elephant (subject to availability and additional payment) or by jeep. Once at the top, explore the extensive courtyards and halls with a knowledgeable guide who will share captivating stories of the past.

Later, explore the city of Jaipur, where you'll find the awe-inspiring City Palace, a complex filled with palaces, gardens, and art collections. The palace museum holds rare manuscripts, armor, costumes, carpets, and miniature paintings. Adjacent to it is the Jantar Mantar, an astronomical observatory built in 1726 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh, which continues to make precise astronomical predictions.

Jaipur is a haven for shoppers, with its old city bustling with bazaars offering a wide range of items, including jewelry, textiles, handicrafts, and antiques. For avid shoppers, Jaipur is an excellent place to discover and collect unique treasures.

After your day of exploration, enjoy an overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 3 - Road Travel From Jaipur To Bikaner

After breakfast, you'll drive to Bikaner. Upon your arrival in Bikaner, you'll be transferred to your hotel. This desert town in northern Rajasthan, founded in 1488 by Rao Bikaji, is encircled by a high crenelated wall, a characteristic shared with many other cities in Rajasthan. The old city of Bikaner boasts exquisite merchant havelis, temples, and bustling bazaars, preserving the essence of a medieval era.

Later, embark on a city tour of Bikaner, exploring Junagarh Fort, one of Rajasthan's most captivating forts known for its lavishly adorned interiors. Constructed in 1588 by Raja Rai Singh, this fort distinguishes itself by being one of the few major forts in Rajasthan not situated on a hilltop; instead, it stands proudly on the desert plains, its sandstone bastions and elegant pavilions forming an enchanting silhouette against the sky.

Unwind and revitalize at the hotel.

Day 4 - Road Travel From Bikaner To Jaisalmer

After feasting on a scrumptious morning meal at the hotel, leave for Jaisalmer. Jaisalmer, a mesmerizing desert town, was founded around 800 years ago by Rawal Jaisal. This unique desert fortress, unlike any other city, is one of Rajasthan's most enchanting and extraordinary places. Often referred to as the "golden city," Jaisalmer was a vital ancient trading hub due to its strategic position on the camel trade routes. Its 19th-century merchant havelis, crafted from golden-yellow sandstone, still retain their exquisite beauty. The fort, built by Rawal Jaisal in the 12th century, proudly sits atop the 80-meter-high Trikuta hill, adorned with intricately carved Jain temples. Don't miss the annual desert festival in January and February, a vibrant celebration of color and culture. Jaisalmer is also renowned for its embroidery, Rajasthani mirror work, rugs, blankets, antique items, and silver jewelry. Indulge in a comfortable night's rest at the hotel.

Day 5 - Explore The Charm Of Jaisalmer

On Day 5 in Jaisalmer, following breakfast, embark on a captivating city tour. Explore the renowned Havelis, known for their exquisite frescoes. Jaisalmer's strategic location on the camel trade route brought immense wealth to the city's merchants, who, in turn, commissioned magnificent Havelis to display their rising status. Crafted from local golden-yellow sandstone and wood, some of these Havelis remain exceptionally well-preserved. Among them, the most opulent is Patwaon Ki Haveli, constructed between 1800 and 1860 by five Jain brothers.

Salim Singh Ki Haveli and Nathmal Ki Haveli are two other Havelis open to visitors. Perched atop the 80-meter-high Trikuta hill, the Jaisalmer Fort, built in 1156 by the Bhatti ruler Jaisal, boasts three walls and 99 bastions, witnessing numerous battles over centuries between the Bhatti Rajputs, the Mughals, and the Rathores of Jodhpur. Within the fort complex, you'll discover exquisitely carved Jain Temples constructed between the 12th and 15th centuries. The Maharawals of Jaisalmer, devout Hindus, were also tolerant of Jainism and were patrons of art and religion. The temple complex houses seven temples connected by a network of corridors and walkways. Nearby, you can explore the Gyan Bhandar, a library founded in 1500 A.D., housing priceless ancient manuscripts and other exhibits, including astrological charts and the Jain equivalent of the Christian Shroud of Turin.

In the evening, venture to Sam Sand Dunes, located 42 kilometers from Jaisalmer, to experience the pristine sandy desert. Witness the mesmerizing patterns and motifs formed by the shifting sands and air. Moreover, Sam Sand Dunes offers an unforgettable opportunity for camel rides (available for a fee) and a mesmerizing sunset view.

Relish a comfortable night's rest at the hotel.

Day 6 - Road Travel From Jaisalmer To Jodhpur

On Day 6, after breakfast, commence your road journey to Jodhpur, covering a distance of 285 km in approximately 6 hours. Upon arrival in the enchanting Blue City of Jodhpur, you will be transferred to your hotel.

Jodhpur, nestled like an oasis in the arid Thar Desert, is the second-largest city in Rajasthan. It is renowned for its distinct blue architecture and boasts a rich history that beckons travelers with its allure. This city has it all - forts and palaces, temples and havelis, a rich culture and tradition, aromatic spices and vibrant fabrics, a riot of colors and textures. Situated in Western Rajasthan, Jodhpur has long been a magnet for both domestic and international tourists. It not only offers tangible treasures to see and purchase but also immerses visitors in a sense of history and the grandeur of a bygone era. The warmth of the locals, the grace of the women, and the vivid turbans, all set against the backdrop of the beloved desert (Marwar), offer an experience to be felt, not just seen.

Later, set out on a half-day city tour of Jodhpur. Explore the magnificent Mehrangarh Fort, perched on a low sandstone hill. Within the fort, you'll discover beautifully adorned palace apartments like Sukh Mahal, Phool Mahal, and Sheesh Mahal, housing an array of treasures including jewelry, costumes, weaponry, palanquins, howdahs, and remnants of a glorious past. Visit the Jaswant Thada, an imposing marble memorial to Maharaja Jaswant Singh II, built in 1899. The royal crematorium and three additional cenotaphs were also constructed here. Don't miss a stroll through Sardar Bazaar and the Clock Tower markets, where you can explore vegetable, spice, Indian sweets, textile, and silver markets. These vibrant markets, with their quaint shops lining the narrow lanes, showcase woodcarvings, wrought iron, lacquer work, silver and ivory craftsmanship, and leather handicrafts.

Call it a day and rest at the hotel for the night.

Day 7 - Road Travel From Jodhpur To Mount Abu

Day 7 begins with a scenic road trip to Mount Abu, covering approximately 285 kilometers in about 7 hours after breakfast. Along the way, take a fascinating detour to Ranakpur, home to the largest Jain temple complex in India, dating back to the 15th century. The central temple is dedicated to Adinath, the first Tirthankar, and its walls, pillars, and domes are adorned with intricate carvings depicting mythological figures, patterns, and motifs. This complex boasts a remarkable collection of 1444 exquisitely carved marble pillars, each one distinct in its design. The delicate, lace-like interiors of the temple domes are a splendid representation of Western Indian temple architecture. You can also explore other Jain Temples in the vicinity, with a reminder that temple visits are allowed only afternoon, and visitors are requested not to wear leather belts, footwear, bare legs, or black clothing.

Continuing your journey, you'll reach Mount Abu and check in to your hotel. Perched at an elevation of 1200 meters, Mount Abu stands as the highest point in the Aravalli Range within Rajasthan. It's the sole hill resort in the state, nestled around a picturesque lake and surrounded by lush forested hills. Legend has it that the town derives its name from Arbuda, a serpent believed to have descended to rescue Shiva's bull, Nandi. In addition to its natural beauty and charm as a hill resort, Mount Abu is a significant pilgrimage center for Jains, thanks to the renowned Dilwara Temples. The region offers captivating trekking routes, delightful picnic spots, royal retreats formerly favored by various royal families, and remnants of the British Raj era.

Later in the day, set out on a city tour of Mount Abu, where you'll visit the awe-inspiring Dilwara Temples, showcasing exceptional Jain architecture renowned for its intricate marble carvings. This temple complex comprises five temples constructed between the 11th and 13th centuries, representing the zenith of stone craftsmanship. Explore Nakki Lake and admire the unique rock formations in the vicinity, including the famous Toad Rock. Be sure to visit Achalgarh Fort, housing the renowned Achaleshwar Temple, and savor the breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

Conclude the day by enjoying a restful night at your hotel.

Day 8 - Road Travel From Mount Abu To Udaipur

Day 8 begins with a scenic road journey from Mount Abu to Udaipur after breakfast. Upon reaching Udaipur, you'll be transferred to your hotel. Udaipur, situated on the picturesque shores of Lake Pichola and surrounded by hills, offers a striking contrast to the arid deserts that define the rest of Rajasthan.

This enchanting city, once the capital of the old Mewar State, held steadfast to its Hindu allegiance even in the face of Muslim invasions. Founded by Maharana Udai Singh in 1559, Udaipur is like a fairy tale that comes to life, featuring marble palaces and lakes embraced by a circle of hills. The majestic City Palace, overlooking Lake Pichola with its dreamy island palaces, dominates the cityscape. Along the lakefront, you'll discover picturesque havelis, ghats, and temples, while the bustling bazaars of the historic walled city beckon from behind.

Unwind at the hotel, with Udaipur's magic awaiting exploration on the following day.

Day 9 - Udaipur Sightseeing Galore

Day 9 invites you to explore Udaipur's beauty and heritage. After breakfast, embark on a half-day city tour, beginning with a visit to the City Palace and Museum. As India's largest palace complex, it marries Mughal and Rajput architectural influences. Explore the 17th-century Jagdish Temple, take a scenic drive around Fatehsagar Lake, and wander through Sahelion ki Bari, a charming ornamental garden adorned with fountains and marble kiosks.

Later in the day, delve into the culture of Udaipur at the Bharatiya Lok Kala Mandir, also known as the Folk-Art Museum. In the evening, treat yourself to a boat ride (available for a fee) on the expansive Lake Pichola, which stretches for 4 km in length and 3 km in width. This lake is framed by hills, palaces, havelis, ghats, embankments, and temples, offering breathtaking views of the city. Explore Jag Mandir Island with its exquisite Gul Mahal Pavilion, adding a touch of enchantment to your day.

After an eventful day, retreat to the hotel for a good night's sleep.

Day 10 - Scenic Drive From Udaipur To Ranthambore | En Route Chittorgarh

Following breakfast, you'll drive to Ranthambore, with a stop en route to explore Chittorgarh, a city said to have been originally constructed by Bhim, one of the Pandavas. While it stands deserted today, it retains impressive remnants of its grandeur. Highlights of your visit include Rana Kumbha's palace, Fateh Prakash Palace, the towering 37-meter-high Jaya Stambh (Tower of Victory) built by Rana Kumbha to commemorate his triumph over the Khiljis of Malwa in 1440, and the 22-meter-high Keerti Stambh or Tower of Fame, dedicated to Adinath and adorned with figures of various Jain Tirthankars.

Continuing your journey, you'll head to Ranthambore, where upon arrival, you'll be transferred to your hotel. This park is renowned as one of the country's premier tiger reserves, offering a high probability of spotting the majestic Royal Bengal Tiger for visitors who spend a couple of nights here. Originally the private tiger reserve of the Maharaja of Jaipur, it was brought under the Project Tiger initiative in 1972. Encompassing an area of 410 sq. km, it stretches from the easternmost spur of the Aravalli to the Vindhya Range. Ranthambore boasts both an ancient fort and a wildlife sanctuary, also known as Sawai Madhopur, named after the town, which is home to some Jain temples adorned with gilded paintings. In addition to tigers, you can expect to encounter herds of Chital and Sambar deer, sounders of wild boar, Nilgai antelope, and graceful Chinkara gazelles.

Prepare for a comfortable overnight stay at your hotel, with the anticipation of further wildlife adventures in Ranthambore.
