Air India Fare Classes and Baggage Allowance for Domestic Flights
Air India provides free check in and carry on baggage allowances for its passengers. The allowances vary depending on following factors:
- Domestic or international flights
- Cabin Class and Fare Types
- Frequent Flyer Membership status
As is known, Air India provides four cabin classes of travel. These are Economy, Premium Economy, Business and First class. Within these cabin classes there are different fare types which determine the different policies of the airline, baggage allowances being one of these.

Air India Free Check-in Baggage Allowance for Flights Within India
There is a minimum baggage allowance of 15 kg and a maximum one of 40 kg for the domestic flights within India on flights operated by Air India. This can be seen below:

Domestic and Connecting International Sector Booked on Same Ticket of Air India
In these cases, the international baggage allowance will apply.
Domestic and Connecting International Sector Booked on Separate Tickets of Air India
In this scenario, the free international baggage allowance will apply on condition that the connecting flight is scheduled to fly within 24 hrs. of the first flight.
Please note that no check-in bag shall be more than 32 kg in weight. So, if your allowance is more than 32 kg, then at least two check-in bags shall be taken.
The size of the check-in baggage shall be not more than 157 cm linear dimensions (L+B+H). For passengers traveling in economy class and taking two check-in bags, the combined linear dimensions of the two bags shall not be more than 272 cm.
Air India Cabin Baggage Allowance
The free cabin baggage allowance of Air India allows only 1 carry on bag of 115 cm linear dimensions (55 cm height, 40 cm length and 20 cm width).
The weight of this cabin bag shall not be more than 7 kg for economy and premium economy passengers and 10 kg for business and first class passengers.
Free Personal Items in Cabin
In addition to the cabin bag allowance as described above, the passengers can also bring any one personal item, carriages for infants and assistive devices for the elderly.
The items which can be brought for free are:
- Ladies hand bag or purse of size up to 40x30x10 cm (80 linear cm)
- Laptop in bag of size up to 40x30x10 cm (80 linear cm)
- Overcoat or wrap or blanket
- Reading material
- Duty free goods
- Umbrella
- Small camera in bag of size up to 40x30x10 cm (80 linear cm)
- Food for infants for consumption during flight
- Feeding bottles
- Collapsible wheelchair
- Crutches or braces
- Walking Stick
