Comparison of Student Flight Offers on Indian Airlines

Indian airline companies generally provide offers to students, who are studying in Indian schools or universities. These offers are generally of discounted air fares and extra check-in baggage allowances. Let us check these offers provided by Indigo, Vistara, Air India, Akasa Air and Spicejet, the five airline companies of India. 

INDIGO AIRLINES

Indigo Airlines, the most dominant airline in Indian domestic aviation market, allows students to have the following benefits:
For all students of more than 12 years of age, the airline offers discounted fares and higher free baggage allowances:
1. Students get 6% discount on base fares
2. Extra 10 kg free baggage allowance in check-in.  So, a total of 25 kg can be taken in a single check-in bag. 

Terms and Conditions:
1. Students must be 12 years of age and above.
2. Students must have a valid student ID of school or university which needs to be shown at airport during check-in.
3. Bookings under the scheme are subject to availability. 
4. To find the discounted fares, the flight search shall be done by selecting the 'Students' radio button in search engine and the student ID number shall be provided when asked for it. 
5. Scheme is available for one-way as well as round-trip flights.

VISTARA

Vistara Airlines also provides certain benefits to students who are 12 years of age at the time of travel date. These include:
1. Discounted fares:
Upto 10% off on base fare of Economy Standard and Economy Flexi tickets for domestic flights only. To avail this discount, bookings have to be made on the Vistara airline website or mobile app. There can be certain blackout dates when this scheme will not apply. The bookings shall be made at least 7 days in advance of their travel date. 
2. Higher Free Baggage Allowances:
For domestic flights of Vistara airlines, students are allowed free baggage allowance of 20 kg for Economy Lite and Economy Standard and 25kg for Economy Flexi. 
For international flights to/from London/Frankfurt/Paris/Mauritius, students are allowed to bring an additional 1 piece of check-in bag of up to 23 kg under Economy, Premium Economy and Business fares. If flights is to/from other destination where the weight-based system applies, the 20 kg additional free allowance is allowed on economy, premium economy and business class flights. 
For students flying from domestic to international or international to domestic flights, the extra baggage allowance applies. However, when flying from international to international flights of the airline, the extra baggage allowance does not apply. 
The extra baggage allowances are allowed only on the one-way tickets. 
To avail these higher allowances, the students have to made bookings on the airline website, mobile app, travel agencies/agents.

AIR INDIA

Air India is another Indian airlines which offers certain benefits for Students. The students have to be studying within India and must have completed 12 years of age at the time of date of travel. The benefits are available only on domestic flights operated by Air India. 
1. Discounted fares: These are reflected when you make a search on airline website after selecting 'Student' concession type field in flight booking engine.
2. Free baggage allowances: Students are allowed to bring 25 kg of free check in baggage allowance irrespective of the fare type ticket booked.

SPICEJET

Spicejet also provides concessionary fares (10% of base fare) to students of a recognized university in India when flying on the domestic sectors. The reservations have to be done through airline website or helpline. Students have to be of 12 years of age and above to avail these fares. The bookings under this scheme are subject to availability of flight.
In addition, students can take a total of 25 kg in a single check in bag. 

AKASA AIR
Akasa Air is offers a 7% discount on base fares on domestic flights 'Saver' fares. This is applicable on both the one-way and return flights. Higher baggage allowance of 10 kg is also applicable over and above the 15 kg standard baggage allowance. Students have to be of 12 to 24 years of age.
